Shiga's 2 banks to join "Eco First"

Ministry of the Environment officially announces on July 1 that it will approve Shiga's two banks for joining Eco First that is an environment conservation program. Shiga Bank and Biwako Bank, headquartered in Shiga, are the first corporations picked up from the financial industry.

Eco First is designed to select environmentally-friendly pioneers in various industries, and then to let them influence each industry. There have been eleven companies approved since April.

According to the ministry, Shiga Bank sells a financial product dealing with emissions trading based on the bank balance, in order to support environmentally-friendly businesses. On the other hand, Biwako Bank sets the highest greenhouse gas reduction goal among regional banks, and it sells financial products to encourage each household to obtain more energy-saving life style.
