Pref. Government plans to introduce a local ordinance to reduce CO2

Shiga Prefectural Government recently unveiled a plan to examine possibility of reducing green-house gas such as carbon dioxide (CO2). This plan, which will be examined from the fiscal year 2009-2010, entails two approaches: a local ordinance and a roadmap.

The local ordinance regarding green-house gas is expected to give SPG an institutional framework to cut half of CO2 emitted in Shiga by 2030. The roadmap will be needed to achieve the reduction from long-term perspective. SPG has allocated 3.1 million yen for the ordinance and 3.5 million yen for the roadmap. SPG plans to finish examining them by the end of fiscal year 2010-2011.
