Swine influenza: Pref. Government has beefed up measures

As World Health Organization upgraded the alert level of the so-called swine influenza from phase 4 to phase 5 on April 29th, the Shiga Prefectural Government beefed up measures against the unknown virus. The Fever Consultation Center, established within the SPG to deal with this crisis, has started taking the round-the-clock system.

On April 30th, Governor Yukiko Kada announced in a press conference that the SPG would enhance measures against the influenza by ordering the center to take the round-the-clock system. In addition, from May 1st the Shiga Passport Center will distribute leaflets on precautions advised for those who plan to go abroad.

"I will encourage the executive officers to stay in Shiga and to prepare for a worst case scenario even during the golden week holidays (from the end of April to the beginning of May)," says Governor Kada.
