The population of Shiga outruns that of Nara

Shiga's population, as of September 1, turned out to be 1,401,853, making Shiga the 4th place among 6 prefectures in the Kinki region. This result has been caused by large-scale construction projects being implemented in Otsu and Kusatsu accessible to major cities such as Kyoto, Osaka, and Kobe. "This result proves that Shiga is higly active, " says a spokesperson of the prefecture.

In the Kinki region, the population of Shiga is preceded by that of Osaka, Hyogo, and Kyoto. Nara, which used to have larger population compared to Shiga, is facing decrease in population. After checking the statistics, an officer of Nara Prefecture said, "we thought this result would be inevitable. "
