Pref. Government will cut working expenses by 5.7 billion yen in 2010

On October 14, the Shiga Prefectural Government (SPG) unveiled that the 2010 budget would be cut by 5.7 billion yen at a meeting where mayors/executive officers from 26 municipalities attended. The mayors, whose municipalities would be deeply affected by the prefecture's decision to cut grants, urged Shiga officials to take a drastic action to restore the financial stability of the prefecture.

The prefecture will be facing  the deficit of 23 billion yen in 2010. The Pref. Government has a plan to reduce working expenses, in addition to selling prefecture-owned property and eating up the prefecture's savings.

"If we don't tackle the financial problem, the prefecture will go bankrupt, causing serious problems regarding administrative services," says Governor Kada.
