DPJ's Shiga branch will back up incumbent Governor

The Shiga branch of Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ) on May 8 decided to back up Governor Kada who is running for the upcoming gubernatorial election held in July.

At a press conference, Tenzo Okumura, chairperson of the Shiga branch, said that the members of the branch consented, because the incumbent Governor's political stance was similar to the party's and the DPJ had been practically the ruling party at the prefectural assembly.

"We will be involved in the formation process of the governor's manifesto, and be willing to make our best effort to contribute to the prefecture's development. We, as the ruling party, will also win a majority at the prefectural election next year," says Okumura.

Governor Kada has also asked the Liberal Democratic Party to back her. However, the LDP hasn't clarified its political stance yet.
