Governor Kada was reelected by a landslide

The gubernatorial election of Shiga was held on July 11, which resulted in the incumbent governor Yukiko Kada's landslide victory against Kenichiro Ueno, the former member of House of Representatives, and Hideaki Maruoka, the former union leader.

Governor Kada, backed by the DPJ and the SDP, underlined her achievements in the last four years, such as cancellation of the construction of a new train station and freezing of the Daidogawa Dam project. Ueno, in cooperation with several mayors critical of the governor's policy, tried to win the race but couldn't gather public support. Maruoka focused on welfare and education during his campaign but it didn't work well.

Election Results:

Yukiko Kada 419,921

Kenichiro Ueno 208,707

Hideaki Maruoka 36,126
