Shiga's population has increased by 2.2%

On November 7 the Shiga Prefectural Government unveiled the final result of the 2010 census. According to it, Shiga's population was 1,410,777 in total, having increased by 2.2% compared to the 2005 census. The growth rate mentioned above was in the fifth place nationwide.

The prefecture's population has been increasing since 1965. As of the last year, male population was 696,769, and female one was 714,008. The average age was 43, making Shiga the third youngest prefecture.

The number of international residents was 21,537, having dropped by 5.3% since the previous census. The most populated nationals were Brazilians with the population of 6,223, followed by Koreans with 4,770, and Chinese with 4,015.
